Pink gifts
June 18, 2011
She brushed me with
the sweetest petals of motherhood
today.
Her arms flung around my neck,
kisses were stamped on my cheek,
and she crowed:
Mommy, I love you so much
I don’t even have the word,
even more than you can imagine!
It’s mutual.
As were the damp starry eyelashes.

womankind, big and small

Wild woman,
wistful wishes
willful winds,
winsome wisps,
worry, worship, won’t.
We had them all today.

Tender Ministrations
May 21, 2011
I feel like crap today.
I have a cold.
I ache.
I’m dizzy.
But I have a nurse.
She makes me presents.
And grand pronouncements–
Dear Mommy, I love you very much.
Sweet dreams. Love, Me.
And she offers, most gallantly, to
watch a movie so that
you can rest so quietly, poor Mommy love.

True Love
May 4, 2011
Meow and Ballard,
they’re the loviest.
And if you had any doubt,
here is the proof.

Forget The Forest.

Sometimes you can’t see the tree
for the leaves.
But then you climb it
anyway.

Shopping for pretty things

A little of this, a little of that…
and perched on top,
the babies in their car seats.
Who are lavished with much cooing.

Easter fairies

Peeps, eggs, chocolate.
Grass, flags, love.
Presents galore.
Even Meow got his own,
because we are in love.

Ordinary, Perfect
March 6, 2011
Such an ordinary Sunday:
scouring toilets,
collecting stones at the park,
drinking tea with the grandmother.
Meltdowns, bargains, laundry.
The little girl asking bashfully
to be picked up
and burying her head
in my neck.
