dropping petals on all our beds
the way they did in Little Women
when Beth died.
Because they loved Beth so, so much.
I adore this kid.

It’s hard for a four-year-old
to keep track of the four
Little Women.
Is that Beth what burned the book?
No, that’s Amy.
Who’s that girl? That’s Jo.
Why is her hair long again? It just is.
Is that Meg who died? No.
Is that Jo? No, that’s Teddy.
But her biggest critique:
Why aren’t they showing us the babies again?
Why are they only showing us this boring stuff?
Wait till I try to read it to her.
