The Christmas tree not taken

December 8, 2013

I tried.
It made so much more sense
to get an artificial tree.
Less hassle, less mess–
practical. Simple.
No carpet endangerment.
And then I had a fit of deep grief in the store
looking at the puny plastic paltries available
and I went– wait.
Life is short.
Damn it, we’re going to get a fragrant
messy mysterious pagan fir,
and we’re going to eat the
traditional trimming-of-the-tree chocolate,
and by golly we’re going to recklessly twirl
in the tree skirt.
And that is exactly what we did.
