An errand, alone

May 5, 2014

After the bright busyness
and the torrential rain
and the damned onions
that made me cry
and the very many Interesting Conversations,
I stepped out alone into
the wind-washed world,
the air saturated and fresh,
new green pressing in
foaming and unfurling with glee;
and just for a moment it was me,
just me and the air and the sidewalk,
just me and the world’s breathing,
just me and the merest hint of silver
nudging me forward.
