Holy bagumba

October 19, 2014

Well, folks,
was a day.
And now it is over.
And that is all I’m going to say
about that.

Tea time and laundry

October 16, 2014

There it is, sweetness and care;
little girl arranging a tea tray
and setting it down
among the folded stacks.
I’ll take this over tidiness
any day.

My friend and I lay on a blanket
on the grass
backs pressed into the ground– actually horizontal!–
like we weren’t mothers like
we were still women who could tangle with gravity and win
like we didn’t have groceries and kids and responsibilities,
like we had nothing to do at all besides be
supine for a glorious stolen hour
while the kids rumbled
and we talked about all the things and the whole time
we were looking up at

We do the turn

I love this time of year;
everything is so vivid,
so saturated.

No matter what

Brave hearts can’t lose.

Autumn for real

September 30, 2014

The rains come down.
All I want to wear is gray cashmere.
But the crimson persists;
my girl insists.

So for some reason I drive an hour
and a half
to go wander around an apple orchard
for two hours
and then drive and hour and a half back home.
It was a little nuts.
But somehow perfect.

To courage

September 26, 2014

Let’s talk about how brave it is
to say the thing
you never wanted to have to say.
So. Fucking. Brave.

She pulled out last year’s epic
Halloween costume today.
No one knew who Toothiana was,
except one self-professed ‘comic nerd’–
but he was wildly impressed,
and so them so were we, with him.
Sometimes we have to go back
and step into our old skins
just to see if
if we’re still who we remember.

p.s. Sorry for the long hiatus, loves. I’m going to experiment with posting here less frequently, rather than give it up altogether. But what can I say? I’m having a wild affair with Instagram

I did something scary today.
I submitted something for something
and the chances of the something
being the something that I want are
oh so slim.
So I needed to celebrate that I did the scary thing,
and not wait to find out if it went well.
This is kind of the secret to life, I think.
Luckily, my friends were happy to oblige.
